Advocacy continues to be an integral part of LIFE’s programs and services. The ultimate goal of all advocacy efforts is to create an integrated society that is barrier free.
Life is a learning experience. Our classes involve teaching skills needed for an individual to become independent and to live and fully function in their community.
We have all been there! Everyone could use a listening ear at times. Peer Supporters are people with disabilities who share similar experiences with others with disabilities.
There are three components to LIFE’s transition services
Our goal is to be the southeast region’s disability resource center. We offer a wide range of information on issues of relevance to people with disabilities.
Individuals may apply for assistance obtaining a home modification or assistive technology. Consideration is given to applications for wheelchair ramps, bathroom modifications, CCTV’s or any modification or assistive technology that increases accessibility and independence.
LIFE would like to invite you to visit our new Assistive Technology Outreach Center (ATOC.) This is a hands-on learning center for assessment, demonstration, education, and training of assistive technology. .
Can ALL of your customers read your menu? Business card? Brochure? Alternative Formats for Everyone offers a variety of opportunities for businesses to provide their customers with materials in accessible formats such as braille, large print and audio.
The Gold Seal of Transparency acknowledges our efforts in providing clear, accurate, and accessible information to our stakeholders, including funders, nonprofit members, and the communities we serve.
The nonprofit Candid learns where nonprofits spend their funds, where it comes from, where it goes and why it matters.
The Foundation Directory helps nonprofits find funders to support their work. Funders look to GuideStar to verify and research nonprofits that are aligned with their priorities.
Charity Navigator has given LIFE it’s highest award, a 4-star rating. This earned us a “great” assessment with a score of 91%.
It means that LIFE “exceeds or meets best practices and industry standards across almost all areas. Likely to be a highly-effective charity,” according to the organization.
We are honored to be recognized for our work in the community, which couldn’t happen without our funders, staff, consumers and board members

Robert “Bob” Habas never gave up!
Bob was paralyzed for 35 years after an accidental injury. He was forced to live in a nursing home because there were no other options.
But he didn’t give up.
Bob fought the system and eventually transitioned to living independently in his own home. As the result of his lived experience, he was a founding member of a local group called Storytellers, which advocated for people who do not want to live in nursing homes.
He became a coordinator for LIFE, Inc. Until he passed away in September 2014, he worked to help other people with disabilities live the way they wanted to live. Bob was instrumental in providing first-hand knowledge on sidewalks, curb cuts, and bus transportation for wheelchair users. Today, LIFE, Inc. continues Bob’s work through our Nursing Home Transition program.
In recognition of his courage and determination, Bob’s family, and LIFE’s Board of Directors and Staff, along with Bob’s family, have started a campaign called the “Bob Habas Fund for Independence” to honor his legacy by helping LIFE’s consumers.
You can help make that happen by clicking on the Donate button below. The process is secure, quick and easy via PayPal.
Please follow the special instructions below to specify “Bob Habas Fund for Independence” for your donation.
Through your generosity, LIFE will continue to carry on Bob’s legacy of tireless devotion to others.
Thank you. – LIFE Board of Directors and Staff
