Ordinary Superheroes Retreat at LIFE - In person

    May 9, 2023

Contact McKenzie Wren at 404-849-0109 to register or to ask questions.

Superheroes are people who show up and make a difference in their communities. Join Susan Berch and McKenzie Wren for an afternoon of conversation and exploration of ways to combine your super powers with other people's to make change. This experiential and participatory workshop is part of GA Council on Developmental Disabilities (GCDD) community engagement training series. The goal of the community engagement training is to teach about Asset-based Community Development, Collective Impact and Theory U - three powerful tools for making change. You will be experiencing the techniques and also learning how to use them yourselves in your own work and lives. The workshop includes practical tools for identifying the gifts, talents and skills in your community and how to work across differences to make change for people with intellectual/developmental disabilities. Conversations like these identify issues people care about most, how to work across differences from a place of collaboration rather than competition and help stimulate new ideas, projects and strengthen relationships.  Examples of projects that have come out of gatherings using an asset-based approach include developing a community garden, hosting cooking classes to encourage healthy eating, free books for youth, and connecting residents to local volunteer opportunities, among many others. In coming together, you'll explore your community, identify assets and learn how to deepen your impact. We will explore issues that you care about, build and deepen relationships and you'll walk away with new tools to use.

Bring a notebook and pen, your open heart and mind and your superpower! We will provide fun and thoughtful activities and snacks!

Past participants said "I came out feeling more empowered to continue working" and " I learned new strategies for storytelling." They reported that they will "Speak up for those who can't or won't and encourage others to speak up for themselves"

Contact McKenzie Wren at 404-849-0109 to register or to ask questions.
